Founded in 1801 by HRH Frederick, Duke of York, DOYRMS was originally established to educate the children of military personnel. In 1908, the school moved to Dover, Kent, and in 2010, it opened its doors to include students from all backgrounds, not just military families.
Today, the school is co-educational and offers full, weekly, and flexi boarding options for over 500 students aged 11 to 18. The school provides exceptional education, a wide range of co-curricular activities, and outstanding facilities.
Ranked in the top 5% of schools nationally, students make outstanding progress at GCSE. Guided by values of courage, integrity, respect, commitment, loyalty, and self-discipline, students develop maturity, resilience, and confidence, preparing them for success in further education and beyond.
The school prioritises exceptional pastoral care, ensuring students thrive academically, socially, and personally. The dedicated team, including Houseparents and Tutors, fosters a nurturing environment where every student feels valued and supported. All students, even flexi-boarders, are a part of the comprehensive boarding house system which promotes a strong sense of community and belonging, providing a home-away-from-home for students, affectionately know as ‘Dukies’. With robust safeguarding and wellbeing initiatives, students are empowered to excel in all aspects of school life.
The school enjoys academic success way above the national average with well over half of all of grades being A* – B, BTEC with an average of Distinction*, and 85% achieving A* – C grades. 95% of students move on to university, with 73% achieving their aspirational first choice and 40% moving to Oxbridge and Russell group universities. Ranked in the top 5% of schools nationally, students make outstanding progress at GCSE, achieving over two-thirds of a grade higher than the national average.
