Maida Vale School (MVS), a co-ed senior in north-west London, will have a new Head Teacher from April 2023. Gardener Schools Group has announced the appointment of Magnus Bashaarat, a highly-experienced school leader who has been Head of Milton Abbey School and Bedales.
Magnus Bashaarat read English at Edinburgh and worked as a journalist before completing teacher training at King’s College London. His teaching career began at Sherborne and was followed by 15 years at Eton College, seven spent as a house master. He became deputy at Stowe School before taking on his first headship at Milton Abbey in 2013. A governor at the University of Winchester, Magnus Bashaarat and his wife Camilla have three children. He remains a keen sportsman, competing in cycling and rowing events and playing cricket for a team he founded while at university. He is also passionate about the creative arts, introducing pupils to new poetry wherever possible.
Announcing his appointment, Gardener Schools Group thanked current Head Steven Winter for his hard work and dedication in helping found MVS and added that it is confident it has selected a dynamic and empathic leader to take MVS to the next stage. Exciting developments at MVS include the opening of the new Sixth Form in September 2023. The new Head will be attending a number of school events, including open day events, as part of the transition process before taking up his role at the start of the summer term.
