At Ackworth School, we develop a well-integrated and self-disciplined community to help all pupils to progress at a pace appropriate to their age, aptitude, interests and ability. This helps to achieve the best external examination results of which they are capable and to leave school equipped to lead a full and responsible life in the adult world.
We provide and encourage the use of the widest possible range of opportunities, for example in sporting, creative, and recreational activities outside the formal curriculum to help pupils to grow in self-respect and to appreciate the benefits of good health.
We continue to encouraging pupils to consider others before themselves, to look for the good in people and to be honest and trustworthy at all times helping pupils to value their fine surroundings and the work of those who maintain them – extending their appreciation to an understanding of environmental issues. Non Sibi Seb Omnibus – not for oneself, but for all.
Ackworth has developed a flexible approach to boarding in response to parental and student needs. Some students only go home for the three main holidays, others go home most weekends. Some board for the whole of their time at Ackworth, others board for perhaps one or two years. About half of the boarders are from overseas, the rest come from many different parts of the UK. Some board at Ackworth because it is a Quaker School and/or their parents came here, others are first generation boarders who perhaps board because both parents work and boarding saves them spending a great deal of time driving to and from School.
