Dauntsey’s motto ‘Honor Deo’ (meaning ‘Honour God’) comes from the School’s connection with The Worshipful Commpany of Mercers, the premier Livery Company in the City of London. It is their motto and the Dauntsey’s crest includes their heraldic emblem, the ‘Mercers’ Maiden’. The School was founded in West Lavington, Wiltshire, in 1542, under the will of Alderman William Dauntesey, Master of the Worshipful Company of Mercers.
Some 450 years later, Dauntsey’s today is a thriving co-educational boarding and day school, set in a beautiful 150 acre estate on the edge of Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire.
Academic endeavour is at the heart of the School and pupils are expected to leave with strong examination results and a love of learning. But a Dauntsey’s education is not just about academic results. Curiosity and a spirit of adventure are also encouraged to ensure that all pupils make the most of the many opportunities on offer. Drama, music, art and sport all flourish and our extensive rural surroundings provide an ideal setting for many adventurous outdoor activities.
Pupils build resilience through the challenges they take on once lessons are over and this enables them to quickly adapt to the ever-changing world they enter on leaving school.
