Dauntsey’s has announced another impressive line-up of speakers for the 2019/20 programme of its renowned Mercers’ Lecture series. The Mercers’ Lecture series is named in recognition of the links between Dauntsey’s and the Mercers’ Company, which go back to Mercer founder Alderman William Dauntsey, Master of the Worshipful Company of Mercers, who founded the School in West Lavington in 1542.
This year’s speakers are:
25th September 2019 – Amanda Owen – shepherdess, writer and photographer
14th October 2019 – Ant Middleton – Chief Instructor on Channel 4’s ‘SAS – Who Dares Wins’, former soldier and adventurer
7th November 2019 – Ian Robertson – legendary ex-BBC rugby commentator
20th November 2019 – Alison Weir and Siobhan Clarke – renowned historians and authors, specialising in the Tudor period
30th January 2020 – Michael Portillo – journalist, broadcaster and former cabinet minister
5th March 2020 – The Marian Consort – award-winning vocal ensemble whose repertoire encompasses music from the fifteenth century to the present day
23 April 2020 Candice Brown – winner of The Great British Bake-off and cookery writer

“The Mercers’ Lectures are central to encouraging our pupils to engage with the outside world and think beyond the confines of their academic curriculum.
“This year we look forward to welcoming a diverse range of distinguished speakers covering adventure, history, music, sport, baking, farming and politics. This year’s lecture series will be a highlight for the School and, I hope, for our local community.”
All lectures commence at 7.30pm and will be held in either the Memorial Hall or the new Pavilion; please check on the School website on the day of the event.
