Oxfordshire prep school Moulsford is opening a new pre-prep just across the road from its main site

Oxfordshire prep school Moulsford has begun building a new pre-prep, which is due to open in autumn 2022. The expansion of the school will accommodate pre-school children (age 3) up to Year 2. This will also allow more space for the existing prep, which is located across the road. The new pre-prep, led by Sabrina McMann, will be co-ed, while the prep remains boys only.

The building has been planned by the school architect to incorporate eco-friendly systems such as solar panels and air source heat pumps to provide underfloor heating, and there will be natural ventilation through roof turrets. Green roofs will cover flat roof areas, and extensive planting and landscaping includes wild flower meadows. The traditional black painted wood-framed structure with a pitch-tiled roof is in keeping with the Chiltern farmyard barn style of the surrounding Oxfordshire landscape.

The U-shaped layout allows for separate outdoor playing areas for the children, accessed direct from classrooms, with a central courtyard play area and soft all-weather flooring. The pre-prep will have its own entrance and drop-off zone. “While it will be on a separate site across the road from the current buildings, Moulsford will be one school with lots of interaction between the pre-prep and the prep school, giving boys the chance to enjoy everything that Moulsford has to offer,” says Sabrina McCann.
