There has been a seismic decrease in Arts education in the UK, according to a recent report from CLA

A report from the charity Cultural Learning Alliance (CLA) highlights the huge ‘enrichment gap’ in arts education. It points to a decline of 42% in arts GCSE entries since 2010. Hours teaching arts subjects have decreased by over a fifth (21%).

As CLA notes, in the foreword to the 2024 report, this is the first time key Arts education data (2010-2023) has been comprehensively gathered together in one place. It also notes that there is a lack of value ascribed to the arts.

CLA is calling for a shift so that all UK schools deliver an expressive arts-rich education.
