Eton College has signed an agreement with Star Academies to open three sixth form colleges
Eton College has signed a partnership agreement with Star Academies to open three selective sixth form colleges. The proposal is for these to be located in the Midlands and North and offer many of Eton’s educational and extra-curricular opportunities. Some teaching will be delivered virtually by its staff and students will have a chance to attend a summer school.
Star Academies is a mixed multi-academy trust with 30 primary and secondary schools. It specialises in supporting high achievement in young people from deprived areas and its schools are in in five cluster areas – Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Yorkshire, West Midlands and London. Its aim, in signing this partnership agreement with Eton, is to fast-track young people to the most academic UK universities. The group says the colleges will be inspired by London Academy of Excellence (LAE) in Stratford, East London, of which Eton is a partner. Last year LAE pupils received 37 offers to Oxford and Cambridge.
