Forest School in Walthamstow will have a new Warden from September, when Claire Tao takes on the lead role

Forest School in Walthamstow, north London has a new Warden from September, when Claire Tao takes up the role at the all through school. Her background includes a spell as Deputy Head at City of London School for Girls. She led Merchant Taylors’ Girls’ in Liverpool from 2018, becoming Executive Head across the Merchants’ family of schools in 2021.

Hers is also a diverse career. Beginning in investment banking, Claire Tao holds an MSc in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations from LSE and was assistant director of HR for NatWest Markets and Citibank before retraining as a Biology teacher at Roehampton University. “I am eager to build upon the School’s legacy of excellence and lead it through the next phase of its evolution. We will continue to break new ground in education, ensuring that our students are equipped to meet the challenges of the future with confidence and creativity,” she says.

The new Warden succeeds Marcus Cliff Hodges. “Having spent time with Claire during a very rigorous recruitment process, which included input from staff, pupils, as well as governors, I am very confident that the governors have made the right appointment,” he says. “I am sure that Claire will derive as much professional fulfilment and enjoyment from leading this unique and wonderful school as I have done over the last 20 years.”
