Throughout this year Frensham Heights School is celebrating the approach that made the school so radical when it opened in 1925. Its forward-thinking founders, three women, determined that they would educate the whole child.
The Surrey day and boarding school was founded in 1925 by educationalists Beatrice Ensor and Isabel King with the aid of benefactor Edith Douglas-Hamilton. Ensor and King had both been greatly influenced by theosophical principles in the post World War I world, and established the school in order to support and develop children’s knowledge and growth in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
During this anniversary year, Frensham Heights School is marking all that made Frensham so different, even revolutionary back in 1925, and remains just as relevant to today’s world. Centenary celebrations kicked off in style last September with 1925 Student Day. This included 500+ students dancing the Charleston. Seasonal events have included centenary takes on Fireworks Night and the Christmas Fair, plus annual musicals and plays throughout the year.
The Surrey school is hosting a whole-school Centenary Sports Festival this term and will end the academic year on a high with its Centenary Founder’s Day on 4th July 2026.
