Gordonstoun pupils are on call

Pupils at Gordonstoun Senior in Moray, Scotland have been trained to provide support to HM Coastguard

Gordonstoun Senior School pupils are now supporting HM Coastguard with arranging a response to emergencies and search-and-rescue incidents across the north-east of Scotland. It is the first school in the UK to provide this type of assistance and a team of eight trained pupils aged 17 and 18 (five girls and three boys) are on call 24/7 to provide support with communications and logistics during emergency incidents.

The students’ assist with communications from a Forward Control Point, closely supervised by two Coastguard-trained members of Gordonstoun staff. They operate from a purpose-built Coastguard Centre located on the Gordonstoun campus, around a mile from the shoreline. Known as the ‘Winthrop-Young Gordonstoun Coastguard Centre’, the control point was officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal last year,
