Queen’s College Prep pupils have been put through their paces by the Royal Marines Reserves in Wandsworth

Laura Hall, Head of Queen’s College Prep in Mayfair, has brokered a partnership with the Royal Marines Reserves as part of a revised curriculum. Year 5 and 6 girls have visited Wandsworth Barracks for boot camp-style fitness training, followed by abseiling, shelter building and close combat training. Speaking after the first session, Lt Colonel Oliver Todd said: “They proved themselves to be confident, courageous and, most of all, resilient.”

Pupils who attended the first sessions had a great time. One pupil commented afterwards: ““I loved the school trip. Abseiling was out of my comfort zone but I ended up having a lot of fun and learnt a lot of new things.”

Headmistress Laura Hall says: ““Building resilience and giving our girls opportunities to get out of their comfort zone has been my focus since taking up the headship at QCPS. It is the distinct Royal Marines mentality that I wanted our girls to have a better understanding of; the Commando mindset – one of cheerfulness in the face of challenge – is what we want our pupils to adopt for the rest of their lives, whoever they choose to become”.
